Detail

Hart is an elegant and flexible flatweave of all-natural jute, which looks as good alone as it does layered underneath another rug (or two).

Hart was voted 'Best Natural Fiber Rug' by NYT Wirecutter in 2022 and 2023.

details
  • 100% natural solid-dyed jute
  • Flatweave: approximately .2” thick (5-6mm)
  • Fibers are hand-sorted by color for a subtle, brindled look
  • Low-shed, easy to clean, and biodegradable
  • Slight variations in size due to handmade nature
  • Please note continuous sun exposure will cause fading

The Design

Hart is beloved for its nuanced, natural variation of hues, and finely-woven to create a delicate ombre. Bonus: its fine weave means it collects less dust. Crimson is a deep apple red with balanced undertones.

The Material

  • Jute is a natural fiber with a golden sheen, known for its tensile strength and versatility
  • An eco-conscious crop, jute has minimal water needs, and consumes large enough quantities of carbon dioxide that it’s carbon-neutral
  • Handspun weft expresses the fiber's natural irregularities and textures
  • Jute has a desirable variation of hue and texture, which we’ve played up with a tonal gradation
  • Over time, the fibers’ sheen will lessen, giving the rug a slightly more muted, less saturated tone. Because we like a relaxed, lived-in look, this gradual, gentle fading is our favorite quality of Hart in Color.

The Maker

Our partner is the third weaving generation of his family, and heads a small weaving house known for their unparalleled skill. A perfectionist with color, he and his team take great pride in their work, which is evident in their final product.

A Note on Curling

Because Hart is so finely woven, moisture in the air can occasionally make its edges curl up. A simple solve for this is to bend back that corner of the rug so you can curl the edge in the opposite direction, rolling it into a little burrito back and forth until it lies flat. See what we mean here .

Rug Care
  • Clean regularly with a non-rotary, low-powered vacuum. Do not use beater brush.
  • Rotate your rug on occasion to ensure even wear over time.
  • Keep away from excessive moisture.
  • Do not dry clean or steam clean.
  • Professional cleaning recommended as needed.
  • In case of spills, use a paper towel or cloth to blot the liquid. Add some clean water sparingly to the spot to dilute the stain (or wet a paper towel or cloth) and blot gently, not vigorously. Check to make sure there’s no citrus in your soap before using; this could bleach your rug. Repeat this process until the stain is removed. If the stain is persistent, try using a mild detergent, or a mixture of 1:1 white vinegar and water. Repeat this process until the stain is removed.
  • Keep away from excessive moisture as jute is very absorbent.
