notes

The Collection

Helen is an ode to the charm and comfort of traditional floral rugs in a modern washable design. Made using plush New Zealand wool, our artisan partners dye, hand-knot, and shear its pile, giving it a sleek low profile that’s perfect for washing. Helen’s enlarged, minimalist blossoms are sure to delight even the most bustling of city dwellers.

The Design

With Helen, we’ve modernized the look and feel of a traditional floral rug, while the large-scale size of its design differentiates it from its true vintage counterparts. Individually handknotted, this washable wool rug has a trim low pile, making it easier to maintain and fit in your washing machine.

The Material

New Zealand wool is a premium wool beloved for its softness and long fibers. Like all wools, it has a hydrophobic layer which repels dust and dirt, and lanolin, which provides its trademark luster and protects the fiber from breaking or shedding. It's woven onto a recycled PET warp for further durability.

The Maker

Our partner has been weaving for 50 years, inheriting the business from his father. Some of the weavers have been there for that long, too. Devoted equally to treating workers well and developing quality products, they’re also Good Weave certified, which guarantees high quality and trustworthiness across the board.

The Designer

Our in-house, all-star design team collaborates across three different countries. Based in Los Angeles, Istanbul, and Mumbai, they put a lot of thought into each and every collection they design. Starting with the weave itself, they determine material and technique, then create moodboards to capture the look and feel before starting to design. When designs are finalized, they conduct an extensive sampling process, perfecting each style and color before it goes to production.

Rug Care
  • Rotate on occasion to ensure even wear over time.
  • When vacuuming, we recommend using the suction attachment or a non-rotary vacuum, rather than a beater brush (that rolling cylinder brush at the bottom) as this can damage the fibers in your rug.
  • Wash rug separately with mild detergent on a gentle cycle at 86°F. Do not use fabric softener or bleach. Tumble dry low; remove promptly.
  • The first few times you wash your rug, there will be some fluff left in the washing machine. Don’t be alarmed; this will lessen and ultimately stop. The yarn continues to open after washing, making the rug fluffier with time.
  • Hot tip: when you receive your rug, put it in the dryer for 10 minutes on low heat to remove any creases.
  • For sizes 6'x9' and 8'x10', we recommend using a 60-lb washing machine (the large kind you find at a laundromat) rather than a home washing machine, which is usually 20-25 lbs.
  • For sizes 9'x12' and above, spot cleaning is best.
